We tell Taylor that there are snakes in the rocks and the road. We wanted him to be a little frightened of snakes so he wouldn't play with them. And, we don't want him in the road by himself, so we tell him if he holds our hand the snakes won't get him.
So, we could have created this "monster" ourselves, but he's SCARED TO DEATH of his room at night or when he takes a nap because he sees snakes in his room. So, we go through the routine of stepping on them, telling them to go away, saying a prayer, putting up towels over his window (for my sake to darken his room) and telling him there are special curtains in his room to keep out the snakes. Every time he sees any kind of shadow in his room when he needs to go to sleep, he thinks they're snakes. Has anyone had this issue with toddlers? I freak out about a lot of things myself, so I'm going through the routine of trying to bring peace to his mind and letting him be confident.
Oh, and the picture is from snakelady.ca, just in case there are copyright issues.
